Norman Mc Laren est né en Ecosse en 1914. A partir de 1941, il réalise à l'Office National du film du Canada la plupart de ses films. Humaniste, il dénoncera dans toute son oeuvre la bêtise et l'ambition humaine. Il est mort à Montréal le 26 janvier 1987.
